Dr. Jorge Sosa Residency: Songs of Immigration in Fort Wayne
Mexican-born composer Dr. Jorge Sosa shared his immigration journey, offering practical tools for young musicians, and helping our community reflect on stories of hope, struggle, and belonging through music.
Dr. Sosa is a New York–based, Mexican-born composer and Professor of Music at Molloy University, widely recognized for imaginative, emotionally charged operas performed across the United States, Mexico, and Europe.
“I am so grateful to Heartland Sings, an amazing arts organization in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They are artist run and led, with excellent musicianship, and deep roots in their community. I had the privilege to be invited to hear the super talented Alejandra Sandoval - Montañez and Seth Allen perform a recital that included some of my songs, traditional hispanic songs and other contemporary works about migration. Maestro Robert Nance is a visionary who has built something very special, based on some essential principles; service and community building, nurturing young talented artists, identifying community needs and developing programming that serves those needs. I am very impressed with their work and have learned a lot from them. They are also the nicest, kindest bunch. I made some new forever friends and I can’t wait to come back.”
