Experience a powerful weekend with Mexican-born composer Dr. Jorge Sosa as he shares his immigration journey, offers practical tools for young musicians, and helps our community reflect on stories of hope, struggle, and belonging through music.
Dr. Sosa is a New York–based, Mexican-born composer and Professor of Music at Molloy University, widely recognized for imaginative, emotionally charged operas performed across the United States, Mexico, and Europe.

Explore how migration, memory, and hope shape a composer’s voice in this intimate conversation with Dr. Sosa about his journey from Mexico to the United States “with a backpack, a suitcase, and a lot of dreams.” Together, we will reflect on the intersection of art, identity, and the American dream, with space for questions and community dialogue.

Attendees will gain practical strategies for networking, creating sales channels, and confidently presenting their work in a competitive arts landscape.

Songs of Immigration | A Journey Begins Recital
Closing out the weekend is a performance at Plymouth Congregational Church that invites audiences into stories of displacement, resilience, and new beginnings, featuring Dr. Sosa’s music and works that echo the immigrant journey.
Presented as part of the Plymouth Music Series, the afternoon includes a 1.5 hour recital followed by a reception and talk-back with the composer.
The performance will feature Heartland Sings’ Alejandra Sandoval‑Montañez (Principal Artist, Mezzo‑Soprano) and Seth Allen (Principal Artist, Tenor), joined by Collaborative Pianist Robert Nance.
Time: 2:00pm – 3:30pm
