Artist’s Welcome

Thank you for coming to today’s recital. It means the world to me that you have chosen to spend an hour of your day with me and the music. The songs in this recital are true to the title of the show, they are why I love movies. These songs became the soundtrack to my life (and I’m sure yours as well) thanks to family, friends, school choirs, graduations, funerals, musical theatre, mentors, significant others, and the original artists themselves. 

Heartland Sings’ 30th Season, “Cinematic Voices”, inspired me to take a deep dive into film music and its history. All of the songs featured today were nominated for or won at least one of the three main annual awards given for original songs written for movies; the Oscar (Academy Award), the Grammy, and the Golden Globe. Some even achieved the rare triple crown feat of winning all three! 

These custom medleys were born of a millennial brain that has been steeped in film culture and lore for thirty five years. Movies bring us joy, comfort, nostalgia, fear, heartache, and surprises all from the safety of our couch or movie theatre seat. Today, I welcome you to take in the music, the memories, and the magic of why we all love movies.
